| The Project Background |
|
|
| Government Plans: The provision of a Children’s Centre in Swanage meets the requirements of “Every Child Matters” and through its co-location with the Youth Centre it will provide a visible demonstration of Dorset County Council’s integrated approach to the delivery of all Children’s Services from ages 0-19 meeting the requirements of the Children’s Plan, Building Brighter Futures. |
| In addition, there is a current drive to focus on ‘narrowing the gap’ between our children and young people. The provision of a Children’s Centre in Swanage will help staff to further develop the way they work with children, parents and carers to improve outcomes and to narrow the gap as recommended in the Local Government Association document Narrowing the Gap, first report. |
| Delivering services through Swanage Children’s Centre will also link with Dorset County Council’s three Corporate Aims: |
- To improve life chances for children and young people
- To ensure improved health, better care and independence
- To promote thriving and safe communities
|
| Purbeck District Plan: Theme 5 of Purbeck District Plan focuses on young people. The development of the Children’s Centre alongside the Youth Centre will physically demonstrate that organisations can work effectively in partnership to meet the needs of children and young people in Swanage. In addition, the development of the Centre will also help people in Swanage to “access services, information, help and guidance” about a Healthy Lifestyle (Theme 4, Purbeck District Plan) through effective partnership working. |
