Mulberry Bush Pre-School, Weymouth

The building, designed for 20 pupils is located on the west side of St Andrews School. Secure play to the north of the building indirectly links to the adjacent reception and Key stage one play areas of the main school.  Ecofab were approached by the Preschool committee to secure a permanent building from which the preschool could develop.

The building negotiates an awkward, narrow, linear, sloping site running north to south.  The post and beam construction allows easy resolution to the sloping site with only minimal excavations. A single, central mono pitch south facing roof flanked north-south with flat green roofs.  High level glazing offers natural daylight into the centre of the building while providing high-level natural ventilation.  This south facing mono pitch enables subsequent inclusion of PV and/or solar thermal panels.  Super efficiency is provided through a small mains condensing gas boiler providing hot water and space heating through an underfloor system. Air permeability is 1m3/m2/hr at 50pa.
